Numerical Simulation of Dendrite Motion Fidelity Based on the Interface Capture Method

During alloy solidification, many free grains in the melt have important effects on final microstructure and composition distributions. In this paper, grain motion is calculated based an interface tracking method coupled with a cellular automata (CA) method. First, capabilities of level set, simple linear calculation (SLIC), piecewise (PLIC) methods are compared, fidelity three models explored. Then, coupling degrees these CA analyzed. Finally, PLIC used to simulate various behaviors movement verify authenticity dendrite calculation. The simulation results show that VOF more readily model than set method, it suitable for calculating dendrites. Among methods, reconstructed by SLIC relatively rough can only calculate objects morphologies. has fine small error movement, does not significantly impact subsequent calculations.
